Meals-On-Wheels

We deliver hot, nutritionally balanced meals to the homebound of Montgomery, Greene, Miami, Butler and Warren Counties.  We also deliver nutritionally balanced meals to Champaign, Clark, Darke, Logan, Preble, and Shelby Counties.

The Senior Resource Connection Meals-On-Wheels program is customer focused and quality committed.

Our Nutrition Department staff works hard to ensure that only the best products are used during recipe development.  Providing short and long term solutions to the nutritional requirements of our customers, our team of dedicated food specialists are attentive to the ever-changing needs within the community.  Every concern is attended to and reviewed on a daily basis.

Nutritional meals, a sense of security, and the knowledge of experience - serving the community for over 40 years.

What is Meals-On-Wheels?

Over 1,800 homebound residents of Montgomery, Greene, Miami, Butler, and Warren Counties receive a hot lunch and a friendly smile every weekday, 251 days a year. It is a daily personal contact with someone who cares.  We also deliver to Champaign, Clark, Darke, Logan, Preble, and Shelby Counties on a more limited schedule.

Who can get Meals-On-Wheels?

Any homebound person who has no one available to help prepare meals or to shop for groceries and who needs help to meet nutritional needs.  Usually the customer is over age 60, but we do provide for the handicapped and chronically ill of any age if they meet funding criteria.

What are the meals like?

Hot, nutritious, and delicious meals are delivered to your door.  All Senior Resource Connection meals provide at least one third of your daily required nutrients and are delivered with milk and bread.  Special diet meals are available to include low salt, low sugar, low fat, mechanical, therapeutic and renal. A kosher meal is also available.

Who pays for the Meals-On-Wheels?

Meals-On-Wheels is funded by the
Area Agency on Aging Title III, United Way, Human Service Levy, as well as client contributions.  Customers contribute according to their abilities.  A donation of $2.00 is suggested and a sliding fee scale is used in a few of the subsidized programs.

How do I cancel or hold a meal?

Notify Senior Resource Connection at 937-228-FOOD (3663) or toll free at 1-888-580-FOOD (3663) if you need to hold for a day, a week, or a month.  Cancellations, holds, and restarts must be made no later than 3:00 p.m. the day prior.

What happens if the weather is bad?

WHIO (Channel 7 & 1290AM) will announce Senior Resource Connection Meals-On-Wheels closings due to heavy snow or ice.  We try to provide a shelf-stable meal during November to help you during those times when we are prevented from delivering your lunch.

How long will I receive Meals-On-Wheels?

For as long as you need them and funds are available. Our goal is for you to recover and no longer need the service.   You are then invited to attend a Senior Dining Center in your neighborhood.
Call 228-FOOD (3663) or toll free at 1-888-580-FOOD (3663) for more information.

How are Meals-On-Wheels delivered?

Senior Resource Connection staff and volunteers from civic, church, and company organizations deliver a hot lunch and a friendly smile directly to your home.

When does the meal arrive?

Your lunch arrives between 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM (with other restrictions placed on certain grants). You must be at home when the meal is delivered.  Although there are no weekend deliveries some of our funding sources allow for a frozen meal to be delivered for the evening and weekend meals.

Can I save the lunch and eat it later?

The hot meal should either be eaten as soon as it arrives or else refrigerated immediately.

How are the meals packaged?

The meals are packaged in a tray that may be re-heated in either a microwave or a conventional oven.

Are there any other benefits to Meals-On-Wheels?

  • A nutritious meal is important to good health and will help to maintain the strength needed to complete many daily activities.

  • Our drivers are trained to identify problems and act accordingly.  If we do not find you at home and you did not previously notify us, our trained staff will make every attempt to ensure you are safe before they go home for the evening.
